On July 5, 2004, the delegation from Messkirch, Germany, that had come to Japan to forge a sister city affiliation with Kahoku, paid a courtesy call to Mayor Waichiro Aburano at Unoke City Hall and received a warm welcome by the city employees.

Mayor Arne Zwick introduced the tight monetary situation of German municipalities and asked about the financial condition of Kahoku. Mayor Aburano explained among other things, that they merged to pursue administrative and financial reforms.

Later, the group visited facilities in the city like Across Takamatsu and the Ishikawa Prefectural Nursing University as well as the Takemori vineyard, and took a look at the display "20 Years of Sister City Affiliation between Kahoku and Unoke" at Unoke Library.

The ceremonial signature of the sister city contract will take place in Kahoku City Hall on July 6, 2004.
