International exchange that connects to the future

A youth delegation from Messkirch visited Kahoku

During the 10 days from October 18 to 27, a delegation of 20 people consisting of 18 junior high school and high school students and two accompanying teachers from Kahokufs sister city of Messkirch in Germany has visited Kahoku.

On October 19, the day after their arrival in Kahoku, the group made a courtesy call to Mayor Aburano and the Head of the City Council Sugimoto.

There was a lively exchange going on among the young people through the various points on the agenda like an exchange with the Takamatsu Elementary School children and the Kizu Kindergarten kids, one day of school at Takamatsu Junior High School and Kahokudai Junior High School, and an exchange camp with junior and senior high school students. It is safe to assume that, by visiting the monuments of the city and having a walk on the seashore as well as by experiencing the harvest of the local specialty Kahokkuri, the group could learn about Kahoku using their five senses to the full.

Moreover, the group also took part at the gExhibition Commemorating the Fall of the Berlin Wall and the German Reunificationh that was held at the Nishida Kitaro Museum of Philosophy.

When bidding farewell to the host families on the 27 there were a few tears, but the delegation was seen off with the promise to meet again.

We would like to thank the Association for International Exchange that has supported the childrenfs activities as well as the families who hosted the delegation during their long stay.

Please keep the exchange up in the future.
